TCS Hosts OPRF Chamber of Commerce Event
Business and civic leaders from Oak Park, River Forest and nearby communities celebrated at a business after hours event hosted by the OPRF Chamber of Commerce at The Children's School.
The monthly event gives members a chance to visit local businesses and landmarks, learn more about their host (in this case, TCS), network, catch up on Chamber news and announcements, and enjoy refreshments, raffle and door prizes.
At the TCS event, Chamber members also enjoyed tours of the school and mingled outside in the outdoor space on a mild and pleasantly sunny August evening.
Ms. Christina Martin, director of curriculum and instruction, gave the official TCS welcome. She noted how TCS values building relationships with businesses in the community, especially building bridges through student activities. She referenced how our middle school students interviewed local business owners on how Covid impacted the community as part of a documentary project, and how Kindergarteners often make field trips to local businesses, taking what they've learned into the classroom and into building their own miniature towns out of cardboard and duct tape.
TCS has been an OPRF Chamber member since moving to Oak Park in 2018. This is the second BAH hosted at the school.
TCS is especially grateful to local business sponsors who provided refreshments for the event as friends of TCS, including:
Kettlestrings Tavern, who provided a huge spread of delicious food
Kinslagher Brewing Co. who donated a variety of beverages, and
Candycopia, who offered sweet samples of amazing sea salt caramels
We appreciate the great job of Ms. Lela Manning, our TCS donor relations associate, who planned the event, and our teachers Ms. Lucy Coria and Ms. Mika Yamamoto for representing TCS and leading tours of our school, as well as our directors Christina Martin and Pamela Freese, and our board president Sandi Carr for helping share the TCS mission with local leaders.
TSC is commited to connecting with our community as a resource for education, as a supportive neighbor, and as a partner in causes related to our school mission.
