TCS to Offer Summer Math Camp!

The Children's School is branching out into summer programming with a 2-week math camp for its incoming middle schoolers. "We're starting this first year of math camp by offering it to enrolled TCS students who are entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, but may offer it to students from other schools in future years," says math camp organizer Ms. Gloria Mitchell, eighth grade teacher at TCS.

Math Camp at TCS will be a two-week, half-day program (9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) that will take place each weekday between July 18 and July 29.

Ms. Mitchell, who has been researching the best and most effective math camp formats, will be traveling to Stanford University for training in a summer math camp curriculum that has been developed and tested there. "It is well aligned with my own philosophy and practice, and I look forward to bringing it back to TCS," she explains. "I have taught 8th grade math at TCS for the past five years and also have experience with 6th grade math, 7th-grade math, and math camp. I love teaching math!"

TCS is proud of its math curriculum that stresses a conceptual understanding of math that builds problem-solving and analytical skills. Woven together with traditional math skills and fun games, students at TCS more often than not love math and carry a love for math into high school and beyond.

TCS hosted a virtual info session in March about the camp for families and there was a strong interest! "We're confident we will fill each spot, so we encourage families to register their students soon," she says.

Registration has two steps:

  1. Fill out the online registration form to let us know your name and email address, your child's name or children's names, and their grade level(s)

  2. Pay by check to the TCS office or by using our online payment form (5% fee will be added). Please submit payment by May 18.
