Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics

In addition to the hands-on projects happening in classrooms, we provide opportunities for students to explore materials and create their own designs in our Tinker Space. More than a maker space, our Tinker Space draws on a philosophy of sustained experimentation and problem-solving. By trying out different approaches, analyzing the successes and failures of each, and engaging in iterative design processes, students develop the confidence to try new things and the persistence to keep going when something is hard.

Tinkering builds the habits of mind of a scientist: learners make observations, test conjectures, and revise their hypotheses as they figure out how and why things work. It also strengthens young people’s autonomy, agency, and competence as they learn to use real tools responsibly for their own purposes.
